Program

Christopher Theofanidis: Dreamtime Ancestors (WMS commission)
Beethoven: Symphony no.1
Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto no.1, Conrad Tao, piano

Jump into your blue jeans and join WMS for an audience favorite, the Beethoven and Blue Jeans concert. Conductor Scott Speck and the WMS tackle Beethoven's astonishing first symphony, in which the young composer asserted his highly individualistic voice. WMS also proudly presents Dreamtime Ancestors, a New Music for America commission from Christopher Theofanidis, based on Australian Aboriginal creation myths. Finally, guest artist Conrad Tao joins the symphony and scales the heights of a pianistic Mount Everest with Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto no.1, Op. 23, in B-flat minor.
