Symphony Watch

They say necessity is the mother of invention, and that was certainly true of WMS’s Virtual Concert Series, inaugurated a year ago in response to the pandemic. If you missed these programs, or if you watched them and would like to relive them, this is your opportunity! This month and next, we will be reprising four of our favorite virtual concerts for “live” viewing (not webcasting) in The Block. Join us at 2 pm on four consecutive Wednesdays for popcorn and your favorite beverage. Enjoy these concerts projected onto our giant wall screen with The Block’s excellent audio-visual system.

August 25
Beethoven’s Birthday featuring pianist Claire Huangci performing the “Emperor” Concerto, coupled with Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto no. 3.

September 1
The Mambo Kings, upstate New York’s foremost Latin jazz ensemble, performing everything from Brubeck to the Beatles.

September 8
A Portrait of America, with violinist Tessa Lark performing the bluegrass-infused Sky violin concerto by Michael Torke, along with Aaron Copland’s beloved Appalachian Spring.

September 22
Hispania Nights, showcasing the amazing talents of pianist Aldo López-Gavilán performing his own Emporium piano concerto.
