Blue Lake Public Radio to broadcast Symphony’s sold-out “Home for the Holidays” concert

Muskegon, Michigan, December 19, 2018 — Blue Lake Public Radio will air West Michigan Symphony’s recent “Home for the Holidays” concert at 12 noon Sunday, December 23. Recorded last Friday, December 14, in Muskegon’s Frauenthal Center, the performance featured conductor Teresa Cheung leading the Reeths-Puffer High School Choirs and the WMS Children’s Choir—a total of more than 200 performers. The broadcast will span virtually the entire performance, which included music from Miracle on 34th Street, Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, and beloved seasonal tunes like “White Christmas,” “Away in a Manger,” “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” “We Need a Little Christmas,” and “The Christmas Song.” Blue Lake station manager Steve Alpert is the recording engineer and producer.

“Last Friday night’s concert was pure magic, and will remain a fond musical memory for all of us for some time to come,” said WMS Executive Director Andy Buelow. “Thanks to our friends and colleagues at Blue Lake Public Radio, everyone’s memory will have a powerful assist this Sunday.”

A native of Hong Kong, Teresa Cheung is Music Director of the Altoona Symphony Orchestra and in frequent demand for symphony, choral, operatic and balletic productions throughout the U.S. and Canada. Directed by Regina Schlaff, the Reeths-Puffer High School Choirs have collaborated with WMS several times before and consistently achieve Division I ratings at MSVMA District and state events. The WMS Children’s Choir is a high-quality choral group for ages 8–13 directed by Mrs. Beth Slimko, who also leads the North Muskegon Public School choir program.

The concert was sponsored by Northern Trust and Warner Norcross + Judd. The 2018-2019 Season is sponsored by a generous gift from Nichols. The broadcast will air on WBLV 90.3 and WBLU 88.9 FM at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, December 23.
