West Michigan Symphony concert features Broadway duo singing Music by Lloyd Webber, Gershwin, Berlin and more
Muskegon, Michigan, January 23, 2019— Broadway’s “Phantom” Doug LaBrecque returns home to Michigan with co-star Lisa Vroman for a concert of Broadway showstoppers conducted by Scott Speck. West Michigan Symphony’s “Bravo Broadway” will feature tunes by Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Lerner and Loewe, Rodgers & Hammerstein, George Gershwin—and of course, a healthy dose of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera. The concert, sponsored by Smith Haughey Rice & Roegge, will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 15 at the Frauenthal Theater in downtown Muskegon. Among other selections on the program, from the desk of Cole Porter will be “Wunderbar” from Kiss Me Kate and “You’ve Got that Thing” from Midnight in Paris. The Lerner and Loewe songbook will be represented by “I Could Have Danced All Night” from My Fair Lady and “The Trolley Song” from Meet Me in St. Louis. No Broadway concert in the Wolverine state would be complete without Irving Berlin’s “I Want to Go Back to Michigan.” The lineup will also include a Rodger’s & Hammerstein Tribute with “Love, Look Away,” “Oh What a Beautiful Morning,” and “Lonely Goatherd.” From the George and Ira Gershwin songbook will be “’S’Wonderful” and “I Got Rhythm.” And from Phantom of the Opera will be “Think of Me,” “All I Ask of You,” and “Music of the Night.” LaBrecque and Vroman will be featured alternately in the spotlight and will team up for duos. The Orchestra will be featured in “Alexander’s Ragtime Band,” “76 Trombones,” and “A Chorus Line.”
Lisa Vroman starred on Broadway as Christine in Phantom of the Opera, and as Rosabella in The Most Happy Fella. She appeared as Charlotte in A Little Night Music with Michigan Opera Theatre. Doug LaBreque starred as The Phantom and also played Raoul in the Harold Prince production and has starred on Broadway as Ravenal in Prince’s revival of Showboat. He was featured in Oscar Hammerstein’s 100th Birthday Celebration at The Gershwin Theatre, and toured nationally with Les Miserables. He and Lisa Vroman have partnered around the country to sing classic Broadway songs with symphony orchestras including Detroit, Rochester, Vancouver, and elsewhere.
