Wenbo Xin Principal - Viola
Violist Wenbo Xin began his musical studies on the violin at age five and switched to the viola at twelve. In 2010, he was admitted with first-place ranking to the Middle School affiliated with the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where he studied with Professor Su Zhen. He later continued his studies with Professor Pierre-Henri Xuereb at the Royal Conservatory of Liège in Belgium, graduating with the highest distinction. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Viola Performance at the Manhattan School of Music.
Wenbo has performed as a solo, chamber, and orchestral musician in Asia, Europe, and the United States. His musical experiences have taken him to Taiwan, mainland China, Belgium, France, and the United States, including concerts, festivals, and cultural exchange programs. These experiences have shaped his approach to music as both personal and collaborative.
His honors include the Hugo Kortschak Commencement Award from Manhattan School of Music, First Prize in the Fuchs Chamber Music Competition, and finalist recognition at the Brussels Triomphe de l’Art Competition, where he performed for the Queen of Belgium. Wenbo has served as Principal Viola of the Mannheimer Philharmoniker and is currently Principal Viola of the West Michigan Symphony Orchestra. He enjoys the many different roles the viola can play—from the inner voice of an ensemble to a leading, expressive presence on stage.
