Carter Woosley - Trombone

LaGrange, Kentucky native Carter Woosley holds positions as the Bass Trombonist of the West Michigan Symphony and the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, Principal Bass Trombonist and Executive Director of the Bourbon & Brass Company, and Customer Service Specialist at Paige’s Music of Corydon. He also performs with the Chamber Winds Louisville. He has appeared as Principal Trombone of the Opera in the Ozarks, and as a substitute trombone for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Kalamazoo Symphony, Lexington Philharmonic, Elgin Symphony and the Des Moines Symphony. As a recording artist, Carter can be heard on multiple platforms with the Bourbon & Brass Company, the Gargoyle Brass, and on numerous DePaul Wind Ensemble tracks on the tenor, bass and contrabass trombones, and euphonium. He also played sessions at the Chicago Recording Company. He has shared the stage at the Lincoln Jamboree with the “Kentucky Elvis”, was a member of the 2019 Forecastle Symphony with Teddy Abrams, and sang on the stage of Carnegie Hall with the Singing Cardsmen. He has performed alongside Jocelyn and the Sweet Compressions, Ben Sollee, Charlie Albright, and others 

As a teacher, Carter has held positions as a Pre-K Music Instructor for Mr. Music Man of Chicago and Trombone Faculty at DePaul University Community Music Division, in addition to multiple schools in the Louisville and Chicago-land areas. 

Carter holds a Master of Music Performance from DePaul University and a Bachelor of Music Performance from the University of Louisville. He was awarded “Honorable Mention” and Runner Up for the 2019 and 2020 UofL Concerto Competitions. Carter’s mentors include Charlie Vernon, Mark Fisher, Dr. Brett Shuster, Dr. Bryan Heath, Mark Kersting, Dr. Nathan Siler and Brad Rogers. Carter is proudly “Rogers Raised”. 

Carter resides in Louisville with his partner, Maddie, and their two cats, Finn and Oscar Meyer. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, kayaking, traveling, and finding the coolest rocks on the trail.
